At last! After a lot of reading, experimenting, guessing and playing with my phone... here are my experiences using the Motorola A768i and a log of playing with my phone along with my GNU/Linux box. Motorola A768 is a linux based triband GSM mobile that comes with PDA functionality - its a linux based smartphone.

Finally, on the friday 29th of october 2004 - i got my linux smart-phone. I was so busy with both my phone and work that i could not mention this on my blog. The phone features PDA functionalities, a basic camera, Bluetooth, IrDA, 52 Mb of memory, mp3 player and a big 320x240 pixel touch screen. Google on 'motorola a768i' for more information. November 9th, 2004... Firefox 1.0 will be released and that would mark the end of a decade old war - the browser war. Surprised? then you have not heard of firefox (try a google on 'firefox' or visit http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/). A recent article on the register.com said...

The organisation [mozilla foundation] says it [is] aiming for 10 million downloads in the 100 days after inauguration [...]

Bart Decrem, spokesman for Mozilla, was in London last Friday to promote the browser. He noted: "When you look at how many people are downloading Firefox already, the 10m downloads target starts to feel very safe."

10 million in 100 days could look ambitious unless to you know that the mozilla foundation went past their target of 1 million downloads of the preview version in 10 days - the count rose up to 1.96 million downloads in the first 10 days. I would download version 1.0 on the first day... would you?

What makes firefox so popular?
Its definitely not very rich in features, mozilla has all of them if not more. Its not the big proprietary/commercial motive... Its because it does what it ought to - with perfection.

Where is the war?
I heard people saying that a war needs two comparable opponents, so now where is the war? Firefox, in my opinion won even before the war started :)

UPDATE: The 'full page ad in nytimes' campaign ended and managed getting 10,000 donors, which is four times the expected number with donations amounting to more than USD250,000.  Rob Davis - the man behind this campaign says then USD50,000 will be used for the advertisement and the rest will be donated to the mozilla foundation.
